Home-Start volunteers offer families:

· Friendly support through difficult times as long as you need help

· Understanding that when bringing up children problems are not unusual

· Reassurance that you are not alone

· A listening ear and a shoulder to cry on

· An extra pair of hands to help you cope with everyday situations

· Practical help with activities like playing or story-time

A volunteer visits a family in their own home for a couple of hours a week. Throughout their visiting, volunteers are supported by the scheme co-ordinator and receive ongoing training.

Who are the volunteers?

Home-Start volunteers come from all walks of life and are usually parents themselves. They are carefully selected for their friendliness, practical approach and understanding. All our volunteers attend a course of preparation and are then matched with a family. References on volunteers are collected and police checks undertaken.
